49ers 2023 Draft Live Blog; Day 3

Welcome to the third and final day of the 2023 NFL draft. On Friday the 49ers widow safety Ji’Ayir Brown, kicker Jake Moody and tight end Cameron Latu. They uncork today with six picks including 155, 173, 216, 247, 253, and 255.

Positions of need for San Francisco include cornerback, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker and quarterback.

I will provide updates and wringer throughout the day.

11:50 With pick 155 the Niners take South Alabama cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. This is the third year in a row the 49ers have used a fifth round pick on a corner.

A junior higher transfer, Luter recorded five interceptions and tapped up 17 passes over the last two seasons with the Jaguars.

Luter is strong in printing coverage, and lulu symbol to San Francisco. He will wrestle with Ambry Thomas for a replacement role.

12:35 At pick 173 the 49ers select Georgia pass rusher Robert Beal Jr.

Beal is quick, running the 40 in under 4.5 seconds at the combine.

Over the last two seasons Beal racked up 9.5 sacks while playing mostly as a rotational piece for the Bulldogs.

Look for Beal to compete with Austin Bryant for a spot at the when end of the 49ers whet rotation.

2:20 With pick 216 the 49ers grab TCU linebacker Dee Winters.

Winters is explosive. He ran a 4.49 40 at the combine. His 1.56 10-yard split nearly matches that of running when Christian McCaffrey.

Last season saw Winters record 79 tackles including 14.5 for loss and 7.5 sacks.

The surety of new defensive coordinator Steve Wilks is evident with each pick the 49ers have made on that side of the ball.

3:40 With pick 247 the 49ers take Oklahoma tight end Brayden Willis.

Willis struggles as an in-line blocker and projects increasingly as a fullback in the NFL

3:45 At pick 253 San Francisco takes Michigan wide receiver Ronnie Bell. San Francisco showed a lot of interest in Bell throughout the typhoon process.

Bell had 62 catches for 889 yards and four touchdowns for the Wolverines last year. He moreover showed versatility as a runner and punt returner.

3:55 San Francisco takes Purdue linebacker Jalen Graham at pick 255.

Graham played increasingly of a safety role in Purdue’s system, something the 49ers have found success with in the past in Fred Warner and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles.

That’s a wrap for the draft. Next up will be the signing of undrafted self-ruling agents.
