49ers 2023 Draft Live Blog

Welcome to day two of the 2023 NFL Draft. Without making no picks on day one, the 49ers enter day two with picks 99. 101 and 102.

I will provide updates and wringer throughout the evening.

4:20 According to NFL Insider Field Yates, the 49ers have restructured the contract of running when Christian McCaffrey. The move free’s up $8.576 million in salary cap space for the 49ers.

Restructuring McCaffrey was a move which had been expected. The money saved could imbricate the forfeit of trading Trey Lance prior to June 1, or the wing of flipside veteran.

4:25 Prior to the start of round two, Peter Schrager of NFL Network reported the 49ers were working the phones trying to trade up. Top positions of need include tight end, safety and offensive line.

4:30 NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the 49ers have picked up the fifth-year option of Brandon Aiyuk. This keeps Aiyuk under 49ers tenancy through 2024 at $14.124 million fully guaranteed. John Lynch had mentioned this was the plan during the NFL scouting combine and older this week stated he expected it to be washed-up shortly without the draft. Instead he got it washed-up early.

I would not be shocked to see Aiyuk moved pursuit this season. The 49ers exercised the fifth-year option for DeForest Buckner prior to the 2019 season, then traded him to Indianapolis without the Super Bowl.

7:30 The 49ers trade up with the Minnesota Vikings and select Penn State safety Ji’Ayir Brown. This is a good pick for the future.

Brown is a versatile safety who has recorded ten interceptions over the last two seasons in Happy Valley.

He’s shown the worthiness to line up deep or lanugo in the box. His skills as a blitzer would be put to good use by new 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

The 49ers met with Brown at the combine and had him in Santa Clara for a Top 30 visit.

8:25 San Francisco has its replacement for Robbie Gould. With pick 99, the 49ers selected Michigan kicker, Jake Moody.

Moody won the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top kicker in 2021. He followed that up last year by hitting all 60 uneaten point attempts and an FBS-best 29 field goals from his 35 attempts.

One question on Moody is his worthiness to hit from long range. Although he converted from 60 yards out in the higher football playoffs, Moody hit just three of seven attempts from 50 plus last year.

8:30 Adding a tight end was a need for the 49ers in this draft. They get their guy, Cameron Latu with pick 101.

Latu is a bit of a project as a blocker, but his strong hands and worthiness to run through tackles could be an upgrade over Charlie Woerner.

9;00 Day two of the 2023 NFL typhoon was scrutinizingly all well-nigh the future for San Francisco. The 49ers are set wideness the workbench with 19 of their 22 starters returning from last season.

San Francisco hopes Moody can be a long term solution who is forfeit controlled. In Brown the 49ers get a player they can develop overdue Tashaun Gipson to play slantingly Talanoa Hufanga on the when end of their secondary.

Latu was a bit of a reach, but with their next pick not coming until 155 the 49ers didn’t took a player they liked a bit early to make sure they didn’t lose him.

Offseason moves.

Below is the updated 49ers self-ruling organ tracker and depth chart. These will protract to be updated as moves are made, and contracts wilt official so trammels in daily.
